Does it worth $50k more? Only OP can answer that. Even from a finance standpoint, if the student's aim is to get into a few selective employers that pay big $, CMU is probably the place to go.
I guess the question is, why some "employers will only recruit from top schools"? I doubt selective employers will pay hundreds of thousands more just to say they have CMU, Stanford, Harvard grads in their payroll. There's got to be reasons for this.
