I couldn’t get past the opening scene. It was a pirate brawl. |
Okay then no... not for me then. |
Not fee though..

I mentioned this several times above- if your library has Kanopy, it’s free that way. If not, check other libraries tour family may belong to and borrow their card to stream it that way. For example, fx county residents can get a free membership to the Mary stiles library in falls church and they have Kanopy for free: https://www.fallschurchva.gov/2017/Movies |
Well, there is much more to see beyond the opening scene. The main character actually has an unexpected backstory that makes you feel sympathetic towards him in a way you wouldn’t expect. I loved Downton Abbey, Poldark, etc., but not all period dramas have to be about people in beautiful dresses/suits sitting around in gardens eating crumpets LOL |
I agree - but you have to like the story. I loved The Long Song and that was a period piece that wasn’t about beautiful dresses. You make it sound like someone who wouldn’t like Black Sails must be somewhat shallow. |
This is so, so good. So is the book it is based on. |
| It's not period but it opens a window into a world we do not see. I highly recommend Crash Landing on You. It's a masterpiece. |
I don’t think you’re shallow. I think that if you’re assuming you dislike a story that unfolds over 4 seasons based on the opening scene, you’re just not giving it a fair shot. And I assumed your distaste for a “pirate brawl” means you’re not interested in dramas that feature a bit of violence. But to each their own! For those willing to watch it, it’s a fascinating and exciting series that approaches a period of history differently from the way it’s usually represented-i.e. -cartoonish depictions of evil, hapless pirates, and the “good guys” fighting them. |
| Austenland on Starz was cute! |
|
I couldn't get into the Forsyte show. I loved Gina McKee in The Borgias but thought she was terribly miscast in Forsyte.
I do highly recommend The Borgias. So lavish and tawdry. |
NOt the one with Irons right? That one was super blah.. |
|
I'm watching Poldark on the advice of this thread. Currently on season 3 and really enjoying it.
The lead is one of the most attractive men I've ever seen--his voice, mannerisms, hair, etc. He is something. |
+1 Ross Poldark is scrumptious.

| For All Mankind. 1970 and Russia beats the US to the moon. Saga ensues. |
