I just looked him up, I like this a lot. I think this is a tier up from what OP is talking about but along the same general style.

He’s like Walt Disney for billionaires.

I have to disagree. Everything he does looks classic and nothing looks phony. It's just...expensive. So yes to the wealthy clients.

I love all of his homes and would happily move into any. Luxe but down to earth. Warm. Lived in. Smart. . I think the PP is right... this is the step up version. Trying to post a picture... . https://gpschafer.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/homepage-har-den-1800x1371.jpg " border="0" class="embeddedImage" />

I'm confused because the first two nancy meyers examples were actually very monochrome, though warmer than the bleached out RH looks of today.

The home alone house is just saturated with color.

Is the desired look somewhere in between? Our furniture and rugs are richly colored but our walls and wainscotting is seriously neutral. I'm trying to pull it all together.

Yes, I meant it as a compliment! Walt Disney was a genius. So is Gil Schafer. The houses are new but they look/feel old, everything is perfect, etc. They ARE "phony" but they don't LOOK "phony." I mean, phoniness is arguably irrelevant. I just meant he creates immersive, delightful, and convincing environments for billionaires.

Please enjoy this, the house is to die for:

The decorating in the Gil Schafer houses is closer to English Country than anything but has American vibes.

Here you go. When you put the link in on your phone, there's a space before the "http" that you have to delete. This website is free, lol.

Some of the Mill Valley pictures look like they should be in a Clyde's restaurant.

It’s easy to take pot shots at Clyde’s now but it was iconic.

Not pot shots. I like Clyde's. My preference is fewer decor items but YMMV.

Anonymous wrote:That actually sounds a lot like my house. I’m not sure what it’s called. Most of our furniture was inherited. Other pieces are antiques I picked up through the years. I don’t like new furniture. I love old wood, antique rugs, quilts made 100 years ago, .... I’ve never liked the minimalist look. If just feels cold to me.

This is my house too. It’s pretty much the anti-HGTV approach to decorating. It takes a lot of time, can be expensive, and is never really “done.” Etsy, 1stdibs, Chairish, and Craigslist are my primary sources. Lots of Instagram accounts selling vintage furniture and art these days too. Everything else was either handed down or found at random antique stores (hard to find the time for this with little kids though). Etsy is amazing for getting access to trade-only fabrics for throw pillows and drapes and cushions.
