Yes people go. It’s a great way to access lines and brands that can traditionally only be purchased through a designer. Also the stores down there have swatches off the high end fabrics.
|
Very strange. I’ve visited multiple showrooms down there and came across everything from ultra modern to beach house. |
You likely aren’t even familiar with the higher end lines people buy from NC. Have you even heard of Schumacher? |
This is so weird, PP yes, they do! Some rich people love to go on buying trips with their designers. They go to Paris, they go to High Point, wherever. It's shopping/hobby with their employee/friend. There are parties, etc. It's just like locally going to the Washington Winter Show or the design center. |
HAVE YOU EVEN HEARD OF SCHUMACHER omg y'all you can buy schumacher from the design center locally just to be clear I'm going to say this so much in my head. HAVE YOU EVEN HEARD OF SCHUMACHER?? PS you can also buy schumacher fabric for close to wholesale from decoratorsbest.com |

I had to go to FarmVille for something else and poked my head into one or two of the furniture places. There was some cute stuff but do you need to go down there with a uhaul?
If I had a totally different spouse, I would think it would be fun to do that road with the longest flea market in the world. I bet you’d find some fun furniture that way. |
I guess I can see why those clients would go to High Point. Proximity and they likely prefer a "traditional" style. Maybe trying to fill a second home/beach house. I can't see all that many busy DC/NYC clients heading down there to shop when there are closer options. |
I get the shopping trips/excursions, but I don't really see High Point as a popular destination for "many" high-end DC clients. Where would you even stay down there? |
High Point is a city. They have hotels. There's even more hotels in Greensboro. What do you people think NC is like? It's not the Outback. |
I’d probably fly into RDU and stay at The Umstead, but I mean you could stay anywhere. |
Flight 1.5 hr drive to HP Shopping 1.5 hr drive to hotel That’s a lot of trekking around. It’d be easier to go to Paris.
|
I think there are a lot of Marriott Courtyard type hotels there. |
They have other styles and a lot of made to order. It isn’t a particular style that they go for, it is going to the source. Again go on the High Point Market site and go through the vendor list. For the most part it isn’t the traditional big furniture store styles people are referencing on these threads. Also a lot of the big brand, Pottery Barn, Arhaus, RH, CB have pieces for their collections made by these vendors and then sell as their house brands. |
They aren’t staying they are flying in on charter or PP, or commercial getting a drive to the studios/factories they have appointments with and leaving. |
The closer options have a small percentage of the inventory. No one is forcing you to go. But pricing and inventory are much better. |
