Night braces to correct pigeon toed walking?

Anonymous
I was born in 1970, and wore a brace and boots/shoes,... and I don't know much about it,...I have pain in my legs, hips and back,...my whole body at times....since I was at least 10 years old...I guess they were all going to keep it a " secret " from me too...

I wore those braces as a kid -- maybe i was 3 years old?? I remember crying and hating them. I'm sure it tortured my parents to hear me cry and kick the wall next to my bed.
Today when I am tired - like end of a long day - my feet revert to that position when Im standing or walking. My mom pointed it out to me.

I'm just trying to figure out if there are any alternatives to correcting this problem. My DD walked on her knees for so long that she is now naturally inclined to have her toes point in (when you walk on your knees, your toes automatically point in) and she not only walks pigeon-toed but also sits in a high chair with toes pointed toward each other, sleeps that way, etc. I just don't want to let the problem get any worse and the night braces initially seemed like the way to nip the problem in the bud. Clearly I need to do more research before deciding. We're going to see another PT next week for another opinion, but in the mean time, if anyone else has input, I'd love to hear it. Thanks again.

Are you sure it’s not her hips turning inward?

I was a baby of the 1950s. I remember being in my crib with those leg braces at night to “correct” pigeon toes. I must have been a toddler but I have vivid memories of sitting up, not able to move my legs independently & banging the back of my head against the wall in a rhythmic pattern to show my distress. As an adult I have severe restless leg syndrome & cannot stand for anyone to touch my legs while I am in bed.I don’t blame my parents — they were young & followed the doctor’s advice of the time.
