He's going to try to win the nomination at a brokered convention. He has the money to influence all the delegates. Once the delegates lose their "pledged" status after the first (unsuccessful) vote, they are free to defect.

Bloomberg has a plan to win the nomination in one of the subsequent rounds of voting at the convention. He has the money to make this happen through hiring the best strategists and gaming out the scenarios for victory.

Bloomberg wouldn't even bother entering the race if the data was not on his side.

I’ve long thought the Democrats’ leaders and friends like Bloomberg are what required loading for bear. And I’m no Republican or Trump supporter.

Bloomberg is the wild card if he goes independent. He won't win as a third party but no one knows what the outcome will be. He will attract independents, moderate dems and moderate Reps. Bloomberg is as far left as any other Dem. Possibly more so in a few ways, as I've yet to hear from Biden or Sanders or Warren if I'm allowed to consume more than 12oz of Pepsi at a time.

Bloomberg levied a tax on large sodas because soda disproportionately contributes to obesity and rising health care costs. Soda drinkers should pre-pay for their health care costs. This is exactly how a free market, Adam Smith-style economy should operate: you pay upfront for the externality costs you impose on the rest of society. This is why heavy taxes are levied on cigarettes. This is the same concept.

You can drink all the damn soda you want. In fact, I would prefer if you waterboard yourself with with Coca-Cola. But in the meantime, you better pay for your diabetes. I'm sick of paying for your gluttonous decision making.
