Can we never do Open Streets again?

Anonymous
I thought it was awesome and they should do it again annually.

I'd love it for it to be permanent though. One main street of 10 blocks in D.C. closed to traffic with bus + car routes on the 'parallel' streets.

It would be awesome.

Here are some event pictures, so yes a lot of D.C. residents, young and old, loved it.

Do we REALLY need to recap it after 7 pages?

So a bunch of neighbors tried to "open" (i.e., close to car traffic) our residential street in Cleveland Park, so that we could hold a neighbors' picnic one Saturday. The Metropolitan police refused to issue a permit. Interestingly, though, the cops close for some summer evening events sponsored by a nearby shopping center, but we assume that some $$ is exchanged.

We live on a side street in Cleveland Park a few blocks from the giant Giant. Strangely, vehicle traffic using the street seems to be no less and maybe a bit higher than normal. Go figure.
