If your kids are involved in Fall HS sports, post Labor Day opening means nothing.

You can do more than hope - you can contact your House members in the General Assembly and ask them to support the bill when it gets to the House.

My kids are in elementary school and I’d rather have them start in August so we can have a proper spring break again. This year’s schedule sucks. Kids need breaks during the year. Many school districts have a week of winter break around February and a week of spring break in April. We have 3 days in April for McPS.

Look all an earlier start will mean is more obscure religious holidays and teacher enrichment days. Your kid is the least likely to benefit.

We cannot go even on spring brake. Do you know why? Because that stupid thing is in the middle of the quarter, and if you go for long vacation HS are guaranteed to fail quarter. Through in this AP exams in early May and you would know that Spring break for HS is a joke.

Good to know that is much later than it has been in recent years. Only 3 weeks of using leave to drive and maybe we can go on vacation!

No they are religious holidays that the government and work places do not observe. If everything else was closed on those days fine but somehow MCPS is special and needs to be the ONLY place closed on those days.

Oh, like the weekend from the Friday before Easter to the Monday after Easter, for example? That closure is required by state law.
