No, if you had read, on p. 3 a poster recommends aligning with Women's March to march on Washington on this issue. Our point is that group doesn't have credibility. go back and read above. |
If you support a cause, you look for allies. If you're not interested in allies, you don't really support the cause. Which is it? Nobody is asking you, let alone forcing you, to wear a hand-knit bright-pink hat. |
| Teacher here, NRA member and legal responsible gun owner. No walkout is not necessary, training children in the way they should go is necessary. Caring for children as if they are our own is the way to go. Someone should have reached out to this young man as he is clearly still grieving the loss of his mother. With that said he is still responsible but according to independent news sources there was more than one shooter. There's the real truth and the FBI palatable truth. |
yep, irrelevant
|
Make other arrangements for what? Not every parent uses school as day care. Some of us actually send our students to school to learn. No, I would not support a teacher strike of several weeks that will cause significant disruption to my children's education. |
Wow, after a shooting in which 2 teachers/coaches died because they put their body between the shooter and students, you post that you think teachers don't really care? Wanting my kid to be fed, and a roof over their head, does not make me a bad person. Wanting to keep the job that's critical to the future of this country, and that provides the means to support my kid, is not some terrible thing. The idea that this one profession should bear the entire financial cost of this struggle is absurd. Why don't you donate 10 weeks of your salary to organizations that support gun control. That can be your contribution. I'll continue to do my part by teaching kids to the very best of my ability, so that hopefully fewer them will feel what this man was feeling. |
And also, in some areas of the US people who have the power, the votes and the voices don’t use public school at all, they use private school, they homeschool... so this would not have a nationwide universal effect... |
I think it would. If all the nation's public schools were shut down for several weeks or months, the economy would crash. People wouldn't be able to go to work. It is about time for teachers to do what no one else is brave enough or willing enough to do. |
Not at all. The goal is to get people talking. Every single time some snowflake posts about the pink hats it demonstrates that it was effective. VAGINA! |
I would fully support teachers and/or students going on strike. Something has to be done. |
Not every parent would support that. I’m a teacher of elementary students and I’m not “going on strike”. |
| Virginia teachers can’t legally walk out nor strike in any way. |
Nothing stopping the students. |
| How many of you DCUMers actually send your kids to public schools anyway? |
Don’t need everyone. Just critical mass. |
