So, I went to Bethesda yesterday

And she also had a bland header followed by incendiary content. (In case you missed it, in that other thread she claimed that white parents whose kids didn't get into their 1st choice private were thinking that the AA kids in the same private didn't deserve it). Totally manipulative.

It wears thin fast. I'm off to another thread where I can talk to people who actually want a discussion.

Wrong!

"Her children were constantly told they were ugly, or looked weird, because they didn't look like all the other white kids. They are the sweetest kids, and no one ever wanted to play with them. Nice, huh? "

I simply don't believe this. It fits in with the manipulation-based-on-little-kids thing, though.

Just because somebody doesn't share your exact priorities, in exactly the same order, doesn't make them racist. It's called ... democracy! And diversity!

Then you two were separated at birth?

Sorry to say, this does happen.

I'm sure it does happen, and it's wrong and should change.

I just don't believe OP herself.

That's your choice. I am speaking the truth, but I can't force you to believe me.

Honey, it's your provocative tone that makes people doubt you. Your initial post made it clear you are spoiling for a fight. The antagonism and manipulation undermine the rest of your message, which has the potential to be valuable. But once your motives start to seem suspect, the rest of your message does too.

I don't have a provocative tone, you are the one reading that into what I am saying. I am not spoiling for a fight I am looking for some insight. There is no manipulation.

I agree. Is this post really serious???? I live in the heart of Bethesda. It is so incredibly diverse. It is a sampling of the world.

Our neighborhood has all races, cultures and religions.

You don't understand why anyone would ever choose to live in an area that YOU don't consider to be sufficiently racially diverse??

How about because it's where there nicest homes they can afford are located? How about because it's close to work? How about because it has great schools? How about because the county services are great? How about because you can get more land for the money? Taxes are lower? It's convenient to outdoor recreational activities? (I'm not "justifying" Bethesda, by the way. I live in Fairfax County for all of these reasons.)

It's wonderful that you value diversity first and foremost when choosing a place to live. It's THAT important to you. Great.

Now why can't you respect other people's decisions to value other factors more highly when choosing where THEY want to live?

I don't mean that I don't understand, in a condescending way. I mean, that I don't understand the motivation to live in an area where whites have sequestered themselves. I don't understand the unwillingness to live in an area that is more diverse. Diversity is not one black family, and one Asian family on the block. Diversity doesn't mean high crime either. I live on a street where about half of the homes are occupied by whites. In the three and a half years I lived here there have been two cars broken into, and both were unlocked.

NP and I'm not sure what your point is. Your confused that some people have different priorities than you and don't value diversity as number one? Seriously? Diversity is one of my lowest priorities. Highest priorities? Good schools, safe neighborhood, nice house. I don't give two s**ts whether there is one black/Asian/whatever other race family on the block or 20. I certainly am not moving somewhere just to get that experience. If that's a value that you prioritize over all others, good for you, but I find it very bizarre that anyone would place such high value on diversity over all other factors in choosing a place to live.

Then you are part of the problem. I would assume that you voted for Obama (based on the odds), but you won't live next to him. Interesting.

Not PP, but did not vote for Obama. Definitely don't want to live next to him in DC.

If your child's father said "Sort of off course, but I am here in Atlanta and I haven't seen any white people in 5 days. Seriously. It is freaking me and my biracial child out."

I am sure neither statements, black or white, would be good for a biracial child to hear.

This thread is stupid.

Now let's not get carried away now. Bethesda isn;t quite as bad as OP made it out to be but there's no way it's "so incredibly diverse" either.
