Found this thread looking for opinion on the grocery store cakes for my kid's birthday. Not a cake lover myself, so I always found the decoration more important to me. However, I just went to a birthday party where the cake was horrible - I should have asked where they bought it to make sure I didn't order from there. I realized that I wanted to make sure the cake was edible for my kid's birthday.

I usually make the cakes (from a box) so I can have fun decorating, but for the bigger parties I buy. I've bought once from HT and remember being happy. I went to one that was from Wegmans and it was tasty, so I ordered from there once and was disappointed. I think the taste was okay, but they put WAY too much raspberry filling and the decoration was sloppy and not exactly what I ordered. Wegmans is just so busy too, so that was annoying during ordering and pickup. I'm going to try HT again for the party next weekend and if I'm happy, that will be my go to place!

Oh, and I've had Costco before and that was tasty too, but because it is usually busy and the location isn't great, not planning to use them.

I think if you like a sugary cake ( which I admit I do) ypu go to giant.


If you like a less sweet cake, hip it not pay a lot, you go to Safeway.

You want to impress your friends with a fancy cake, you go to a bakery.

but I swear, the whole Costco calves tears great claim is an urban legend. Everyone pretends they are great, but they are completely tasteless. My theory is everyone pretend to like them so they can but them ?
