Are you one of the people who gets irrationally angry is someone wishes you "happy holidays?" Because it feels like you all are in the same group and the dissonance between only wanting believers to celebrate Christmas but wanting everyone to have a merry Christmas is pretty amazing.

Nope. Are you one of those people who makes sweeping generalizations?

But we ourselves do not have a tree nor light up our house for Christmas. We don't do santa, have stockings, or give presents to each other for Christmas. I will bake cookies during the holidays and share them with neighbors or particpate in an angel tree program through work or scouts and am happy to attend a Christmas party at a friend's house and things of that nature.

I think many Jews don't celebrate Christmas despite the secular trappings associated with it because of the history of the Jewish people often being forced to convert to Christianity and resisiting, crusades, Spanish inquisition, etc. And celebrating the birth of the Jesus who Christians believe to be the messiah but Jews do not would be like celebrating that a day to commemorate that the earth is round when you believe it to be flat.

This is funny since many devout Christians don't celebrate it as a religious holiday. In the US, it's secular, plain and simple.

That's exciting! I read that the Christmas tree originates with Yahweh's Canaanite bride, the Goddess Asherah (aka Astarte), whose symbol was the tree. Do you venerate the Canaanite gods or is it more a Norse pagan thing? (aka Odin and Yule).

I celebrate Christmas but not Easter. I believe in the sweet baby Jesus, but feel that as an adult he rather lost his way.

So you think he was the son of god, but did not die for our sins?

He was seduced by the Dark Side.

I believe that he surrendered to the temptations offered to him in the desert.

That's an almost Gnostic viewpoint. That's fascinating; never met someone who thought like that.

Some people don't just stick to what the bible says or what they learn in church. They reach their own conclusions. Of course, there's no reason to assume they are right. It's just another belief -- and one not sanctioned by any established religion.

There is a difference between discussing different viewpoints and ideas and thinking one is right. Just because the bible or a preacher in church says something does not make it correct either. Humans are flawed. Disscussion of ideas and philosophy is the backbone of any free society. I don't know if the dark side poster is serious or playing, but I welcome ideas regarding the Gnostics. I wonder if they had a winter celebration?
