How "prestigious" is Tulane these days?

My high stats, high recommendations DC was just deferred from Tulane. Yes, DC got accepted ED to a very high level college but we cannot afford it so DC was going to seriously weigh the options if offered significant funding by Tulane. Apparently not.
It’s not like DC is going to say no to the top college and see is Tulane offers admittance in April. Oh well.

Must be for more middle tier students apparently.

Because your "high stats" DC was deferred means somehow Tulane would rather accept "middle tier" students. Um, ok.

They think the kid is just fishing for a competing offer to get a better offer somewhere else. But DC would have considered going there.
Boston seriously recruits high tier kids and gives scholarships so better to try that one if anyone needs FA.

If kid got into Stanford would you believe that they would enroll at Tulane? Apparently not.

What's your point? PP person was complaining that Tulane deferred her precious snowflake when another school didn't and then proceeded to insult anyone who did get accepted as "middle tier".

Tulane seems to be the new IT school. I know of 5 kids (including mine) who went ED/EA from the same school. All great kids with strong records. A generation ago the type of kid who would have used Tulane as a safety. Now a first choice school.

Good academics, tons of merit aid and it's in New Orleans. (And, if you're a guy, way more girls than guys.) What's not to like?

At the risk of sounding rude, kids with high stats don't apply ED to Tulane. It's a fine school but not worthy of an ED reach if you are a genuinely strong applicant. The kids that I know who go there are either high stat kids who weren't strong enough to get into a need blind school but needed the FA or moderate stat kids that were full pay.

It's a very social place. My DD says she actually sometimes has a hard time keeping up with the work hard play hard mentality- the kids who get good grades with a full class load then go to their internship or research then an extracurricular and still manage to go out 2-4 times are common there (and then they wake up at 6AM to get a run in). For a kid who has a hard time with distractions it might not be the right place!

Apparently not - but if your family does not have funds for whatever reason you might. I think they think you are just using them for a counteroffer in that case (apparently) so if your kid does apply perhaps you have to explain that you are seriously interested and looking for scholarship money . Is that really that rare? I mean it would be as an alternative to a kids state school which can be attractive to a kid.

My kid just got deferred from these jokers. Same GPA as 4 others from his school who got in, markedly higher sats. USNWR rankings has screwed up the entire admissions process. My kid would have accepted if admitted. Their freakin loss

Gaining ground in the rankings.

In New Orleans.

Strong alumni network.

Beautiful campus.

Robust party scene.

Comfortable if NE Jewish.

Comfortable if NE Prep.

Comfortable if SE redneck.

What's not to love, and who would not love it?

Did I mention in New Orleans?
