Is it horrible I don't want to donate my organs?

Also an RN. The only thing I've seen doctors do is talk to the family about organ donation when the time has come to take the person off life support. Partly because some family members choose to stay with their deceased family members for a little bit to say their goodbyes and to mourn. Totally fine. However, depending on what organ is going to be used to donate, time is important. So the doctor needs to discuss this with them.

I'm an organ donor and I also do not want to be kept alive by artificial means. So the myth of "doctors not spending time on me" doesn't really come into play.

Organ donation really isn't about you. You'll be dead. You won't have any idea what's going on. Many surviving loved ones find peace knowing you were able to help/save people. If they are unable to use your organs then it's a moot point. I'm a donor and am going to get on the bone marrow registry next year. Thankfully my family/friends haven't needed anything to stay alive, but I know so many others are unable to say the same.

It's up to you, but as you'll be dead, why not?
