| This is hilarious. Absolutely, crazy when you think about it. We have less students in the school system that would ever be inconvenience of the Pope visit. Hell, we had more of an issue when the city prepared for the Superbowl Victory Parade for the Redskins than this guy coming to town. Just 20 years ago...there was more planning for the DCPS students for the Million Man March than then for this guy's visit. |
I don't understand your point. |
| No point...just gibber-jabber. The pope's visit is not going to disrupt this city as one would think for students getting back and forth to school. The President's motorcade can be more of inconvenience than the Pope driving through this city on an announced visit. Let's be real have you ever been caught in the traffic when the President is in route? Laughable...when the metro is at it's most dysfunctional...there's no announcement that schools should close. Crap, they could announce that a hurricane is heading for DC and schools would be in session and we are scurrying because of the Pope mobile. Sips tea and chuckles more. |
They don't closed entire streets for days for presidential motorcade. |
NP and I still don't understand your point. Do you think affected schools should close or not? Obviously the impact on most neighborhood schools will be negligible, except for general Metro delays. But the impacts on schools close to the closures will be significant. For example, if I were a parent who usually picked up my child from Brookland Middle, there will be no way to pick him or her up by car on Wednesday. |
| And if Brookland Middle students trying to take the Metro home after school, good luck. Brookland station will be exit only at that time. They will have to shuttle to fort Totten or RIA. That's do-able but I expect it will be a long and crowded ride. |
| Honey, the Pope is not traveling the same route for same day. So, the streets are only being closed on certain days for certain times. Trying to be a smart-ass...and you're messing with the wrong one honey. If I was close-enough to you... Again, this disruption is not enough to miss an entire day of instruction. The Pope will not be traveling this city during the time for children arriving or departing school... You parents kill me with this OMG...I can't get to my child...so close the school. If these are such walkable school neighborhoods as they say they are... Then a lot of Volvo and Saabs owners who are driving one block to drop off their little Peebles and Bam-Bam |
| Mario Peebles drives a Saabs? |
You have NO idea what you're talking about. The schools that are closing are not neighborhood schools. Also, something like 80+% of DC students attend a school outside their neighborhood. Lastly, the streets near the charters that are closing are going to be closed for 36+ hours. |
Yes the schools that have closed are all in majorly affected areas. If your area isn't or if you think the presidential motorcade is a big deal, stay off the thread. I work on 16th Nw so I see motorcades all he time. One today in fact. No biggie. |
Word Salad, is that you??? |
| Is Sela closing? |
I don't think it is Word Salad because she hasn't trashed Capitol Hill yet. It's definitely a cousin or friend of Word Salad though. I love these old guard DC posters though. They understand everything already and we are always hysterical. Lol. |
| Well, new twist - check to make sure your aftercare is still open...because ours won't be. |
They just announced Shining Stars is closed on the 23rd.
