is your school closed during the Papal Visit?

OPM is recommending that Feds telecommute.

Our school, located in Brookland, will be closed the day that the Pope is in Brookland. However, the closure is for Yom Kippur--we always close for it--and was scheduled long before the Pope dates were announced. That said, it works out very well.

Because the gridlock in Washington is going to be unbearable. OP is right: OPM is arranging for any federal workers who can to work from home. Private sector is also being told to stay home and work from there. Radio and TV talk shows have been talking about the need to stay home for the last week. Your school needs to get on the ball and think of the parents who have to transverse D.C. to get to it.

Schools in NW should be able to be open.

When is the visit happening?

Why are people expecting such gridlock?

Last time, the Pope held his big, open to the public mass, in DC, but this time he's holding it in Philly.

Mass at the Shrine is expected to create havoc. WMATA is expecting Brookland/ CUA to be overwhelmed. And it is during rush hour. That's the 23rd.

On the 24th he addresses Congress.

Metro will be a cluster***. Please remember to stock up on bread, water and toilet paper.

The pope is not doing any public events- and the events he is doing have very limited seats/tickets so there aren't going to be tens of thousands of people crisscrossing the city. I don't think it will be as huge a shutdown or gridlock as everyone is stressing about.

Our school announced tonight that it will be closed that day.

23rd there are congregations marching down to the White House to greet the Pope. He will be having a mass with all of the top folks in the hierarchy at St Matthews. Streets will be blocked off and security insane.

The 24th
Pope is rumored to be making an appearance facing the lawn after speaking to congress. The security will be similar to State of the Union addresses. There will be a 200,000+ person climate march that day as well.

The mass at the Shrine will be INSANE! It will block cross town traffic at the very least.

Wing nuts are also threatening to shoot the Pope because he urged compassion towards Syrian refugees.

Shouldn't affect neighborhood schools too badly - as long as they are not in the area. It will greatly affect commuter schools.

As far as I know our upper NW DCPS is open. Most of us walk our kids to school.
