Amazing story : Korean Student Gets Chance to Attend Both Harvard and Stanford

Anonymous
How does this even sound logically or even necessary? Why wouldn't she just get a degree from both schools? Nothing prevents a student from going to as many colleges as they want and earning degrees as long as they are paying and meeting the degree requirements.

^^^I think you are missing the crux of this discussion. Sara is claiming that she has received an unprecedented offer from both Harvard and Stanford; that she is just that awesome that they are bending over backwards to share her. I believe that many are suspicious of whether she was accepted to Harvard or Stanford, let alone both of them.

Incredible pressure to succeed in Korea. Often the kids who come here for school (although not necessarily the ones who go to TJ) are the ones who did not get into the top schools in Korea. Going to a US school - boarding or public- is an acceptable option. Apparently a number of the families of the kids in public schools live in the Rotunda in McLean. FCPS seems to be popular with Korean families, including TJ. Sometimes the pressure in any culture, but particularly given the premium on success there, leads to cheating or fabrication.

This is an interesting story either way. If true, she must be incredibly smart student. If false, her family is incredibly stupid and shallow family. There's nothing in the middle. For her sake, I am still hoping it's a true story but it doesn't look good.

I heard the girl was actually admitted by William & Mary.

Btw, what Pooja achieved is amazing, but it is in poor taste to insert such irrelevant boasts. You are welcome to start your own thread devoted to her greatness.

Oh that's right: white people's sour grapes: no Poojas allowed in DC Urban (non asian) moms.

That's an interesting take on PP's valid comment. You could not miss a chance to be offended.

NP I don't understand how Pooja is relevant to this story at all and I'm Indian since you seem to think that matters.

At least she got in somewhere....assuming they don't rescind the offer due to this mess.

1) Sara's dad was a relative of the journalist who popularized her.
2) Harvard and Stanford aren't that desperate for an undergraduate that they would mend their rules to offer her a two year program.
3) Background checks show that she faked most of her achievements.
4) Harvard recently confirmed that she was never accepted into her university.

...and you are? What is your source for these "background checks'?

I also heard from my DC that she got in WAM.

This is truly such a sad story. I hope she'll be okay.
