Weren’t there some expulsions there recently for drugs?

There is a widespread party culture at BI. Sports teams, especially lacrosse teams, are a major part if it. It’s out of control and authority figures at the school look the other way.

There've been expulsions at DJO and SJC for drugs too and both have zero tolerance policies. The reality is some kids use drugs in HS and there's always a party crowd. That's not new or limited to local Catholic high schools, but, there's a difference between kids using drugs and partying and a "drug problem." If we're talking about a few individuals being expelled that seems par for the course.

The bigger problem at BI is the coaches and grown ups who accept and enable the party scene.

I don’t get it. You are upset the school is doing the right thing? There should be expulsions for drug use in private high school.

You live in La La Land if you think drugs aren’t in almost every high school.

The beauty of private school is that the rotten apples get tossed.

BI had a strong reputation almost everywhere other than this board, where there seem to be bashers who spread misinformation and don’t even have kids in the school.

People who teach at the school most certainly know what is wrong. Lots of good, but going downhill in some disturbing ways.

No, it does not. I hear all the same things said on this board IRL. You are just surrounded by boosters and people who aren’t willing to acknowledge the problems.

Pp, do you have a child at BI?

We are happy there. We know typical high school stuff happens at all high schools, it's up to us to educate our kids so they make good choices. The school does its part and follows through when code of conduct is broken. Our kid is challenged and happy and has a great group of friends.

My DD is at BI and it has been a great school for her.

Lots of posts indicate there’s a party culture. I assume that meaning drinking, drugs, and potentially underage sexual activity. This behavior is concerning at any age but especially for freshmen and sophomores. I hope that safe behavior is encouraged. Parents as chaperones. Condoms available. No heavy drugs. No weekend ragers or beach week. Teach your children well and encourage them to do extracurricular activities.

Current parent here- I have two older kids who attended BI as well. I think that some administrators are all over the place enforcing the expectations. I believe that the “partying” is less than when my older child was there, 8ish years ago. Parents play a much bigger role in the “party culture” than the school does. I think my child is thriving because of the teachers at BI. We aren’t a sports family, but theater has been a very positive experience. I’m a grateful member of the BI family.

It will be interesting to see who the new head will be next year. Teachers are walking around school with a spring in their steps!

This is a good first step if there was a problem at all in the first place. Synergy is a good thing.
