Will I regret not doing "Santa"?

Only read some of the posts, but we're not comfortable with lying to the kids either, so we mostly skip Santa. Not tryIng to be mean or cool. I'm just not comfortable with the lying!

We're atheist but still celebrate Christmas because it's the one day of the year that feels magical and that feels like peace on earth and goodwill to men and all that nice stuff could actually happen.

The month-long excitement of Santa was such a fun time in my childhood and I love watching my kids anticipate it. Your child is only young once, let him have that magic.

This is where we come out. We still bake cookies for Santa as part of our tradition even though our oldest is in college and has LONG since given up believing in Santa. None of our 3 has believed in Santa for more years than I can remember, but we still bake cookies and still wrap presents from him under the tree because it makes us smile.

You are also missing out on the magic. Our boys are so full of joy and wonder and it is contagious...the elf, Santa, reindeer, etc.

I have only fabulous Holiday memories because my parents were wonderful with creating excitement and traditions....and NO it's not just about money and presents.

This could be why my brother, sister and I still get together with my parents on the Holidays. The families I know without much tradition have the kids that don't bother coming home for Holidays.

We are Jewish. Our holidays are wonderful and special and filled with excitement for our kids too, and yes of course we spend them with our extended families. No Santa required. I know Santa is a fun tradition but it doesn't have the market on making holidays special. I can assure you that you are not depriving your child in any way, shape, or form if you don't do it.

Yes but these children are not Jewish. From what I read the OP isn't into special Holidays. If Jewish I guess she'd be complaining about Passover, Elijah and anything not scientific.
