High speed rail would work a lot of places. Particularly with air travel becoming nearly unbearable. Current train travel mostly sucks so people don't take the train. But, if train travel didn't suck, people would take it. Why get anal-probed getting on a plane where you are charged for every piece of luggage, offered a Dixie cup of water, and crammed in to a space too small for a child when you could have the comparable luxury of a train? |
oh I agree it is better than flying. but not necessarily better than getting a rental car or driving. especially in the florida example, it made zero sense. But let's just build it up and down the NE corridor first and see how it works. |
Interesting article by Joe Scarborough on the debt crisis: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/59262.html. He thinks Obama does not really want his 4 trillion "big deal" and that GOP is crazy not to grab it while they can. I think Obama figures that offering his deal is a winner whatever happens, but I suspect he'd like it to go through. What do you think? |
I think that Obama wants to make history with this deal. But yes, the GOP is crazy not to take it. It has nearly everything they want. It's really missing one thing: a defeat of their political opponent. |
I think Obama wants what is best for him politically. And that is to push for the "big deal", but not to get it. That makes him look centrist to independent voters, but does not piss of his base. |
David Brooks (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/19/opinion/19brooks.html?_r=1&hp) does not give an opinion on Obama's true wishes, but he emphatically states that the GOP is missing a real opportunity in turning down the grand deal. He is also trenchant in his criticism of the big mouths of the far right. |
Obama is going to work them over. The Republicans are lost. They can't even get their own party together. Utter collapse. |
17:16 here. Well that didn't take long. |
