Where did your kid with high 1400s SATs end up?

Our friends’ DS: Syracuse honors (direct admit to the undergrad business school) with significant merit aid.

She sounds like an unpleasant picky brat. Keep her away from the cities at all costs.

Northwestern is not in Chicago.

It’s in Evanston, which is a quiet, safe suburb on the lake, 20-30 minutes north of Chicago.

Kids at Northwesyern can uber or train in to Chicago for concerts, food, shopping, going out etc. if they want. But there’s plenty to do on campus and in the surrounding suburb if they’d prefer to skip the city.

This, NU is inappropriate Evanston bubble, city is optional. UChicago also a bit of a nice campus bubble with Uber access to city. Who doesn't like Chicago but for weather? Clean, accessible, fun city!

There are probably only 35-40 students out of 5,000 freshman with an SAT score 1480 or above at JMU. Probably even fewer at VCU which has about 4,000 freshman. Maybe wants to live close to home? Got some merit money? There are quite a few reasons.

Got into UVA but decided to attend NOVA for two years and transfer. We don't make typical DCUM money, and he wanted to keep working at his current job at an afterschool program to save money for when he does go away.

My son is at VCU and had high 1400s, but his grades were mediocre in certain subjects. He's smart but didn't really apply himself in high school classes that he did not like, and didn't want to go to a school out of state or JMU (due to major). He likes VCU so it is all good.

Villanova is pretty big on yield protection and takes 60% from ED so likely rejected since they knew they’d have the other offers. Congratulations btw

NU is quite close to the Chicago border. When people talk about Chicago being 20-30 min away, they are talking about the main business areas of Chicago, like the Loop & the Miracle Mile.
