Inexpensive areas cannot afford excellent schools. Ludicrously stupid question.. |
| Lewisville, NC. Excellent elementary and high school (middle school less so). Here is one listing example. We have considered moving near here and looked into the high school. https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/124-Shady-Brook-Ln_Lewisville_NC_27023_M92218-72795 |
No Va is neither cheap nor pleasant. |
It's also not the East Coast Silicon Valley. It's a bunch of govtech and data centers. |
It is very nice there, but that would be a big lifestyle adjustment from NYC. And I say that as someone who grew up just west of Lewisville. I think OP needs to decide how much of a lifestyle and cultural change the family wants. But if serious about change, it’s a great area. |
| I went to one of the schools named on this thread. It is an excellent structured school but lacks diversity and the programming available in large school districts. A blend of the structure, rigor, and course offerings of that school with the diversity and special programs of my kids’ current school would be best, but I don’t know of a place like this. |
Um where are the good schools in this list? |
Translation: Where are wealthy white people living that still has $500K starter houses on the outskirts of town?
It hilarious how you snooty, class obsessed, closet racists walk on eggshells using coded words. Who do you think you're fooling? Just own it. |
| Very safe bet any affordable place with "good" schools is engaging in fraud and/or the reality on the ground doesn't align with their suspicious data. Wealthy two parent homes create good schools. There's no magic dirt. And the job-hopping Ed.D. imbeciles who run the local public schools are not gurus. The makeup on the super majority of the parents makes a school district, nothing more. |
NO IT IS NOT! Lewisville is rural NC and that is solid red MAGA country. No way! |
This sounds a little like my little Chicago suburb. Homes are selling for between 300-500K. Taxes are between 7-13K. But I'd describe our schools as good, not great. Good, to me, implies an average ACT of at least 28. I believe our average might be 23-24. And our middle school is just ok. I don't know how anyone can afford a 450K house on 130K as a single parent, so I'm assuming you had help or bought many, many years ago like we did. My spouse and I make 200K+ and while we could theoretically afford a 450K home,we could not also afford to help pay for kids college and save for retirement on that. |
Agree. Find a place with a low COL and spend $$ on a private school. There is no free lunch, OP. |

Fairfax county is definitely not an inexpensive area in which to live. |
