It's been a difficult, stressful year (and yes, it's all of us!) and I want to thank everyone who was so kind and supportive. You were so kind that I wanted to make sure to report back. For posterity: She got in to MIT today. She's going to wait on a few schools to commit but there was a reason this was the EA and she didn't ED anywhere else. For the record, rejected from Carnegie Mellon. Thank you and good luck!

So how does that work? If she does ED and they defer her, she can still keep her options open until the May deadline, even if they accept her laater? This would be good to know.

DD decided that she'd be happy at either and it wasn't worth the time and effort to apply to NEU, Purdue, Tufts, etc. She figured the most value for that money would be in the top privates and otherwise she'd have an excellent experience at the publics and try again for grad school. DH and I wanted her to cast a wider net but she was very clear with her strategy aligning with her goals. Thank you again!

Congratulations. I was the poster who said deferred EA to acceptance at MIT was not impossible as it has happened several
times in recent years at our private. Glad to be proven right.

Is your daughter an intended math major? Thanks.

I know another girl in NYC who got into MIT after being deferred so I guess deferred to accept does happen.

MIT doesn't have an ED. Only EA. Not even REA. No restrictions to apply to any other school at any other point. You commit at some point in the spring (May?) like with most other schools. If you apply ED to another school you required to go there. Otherwise that's it. No binding acceptance until it's all over.

Congratulations!! Can you check back in when the rest of the schools come in for those of us with kids with similar profiles (I think gender matters a lot for MIT outcomes).
Btw, I admire your daughter's approach to applications.

I scrolled through he responses...is your daughter in a public school or private school OP? (And congrats on your good news on MIT)!

congrats! waitlisted here for mit--which is uugh, was so happy about gtech and basically committed but now upset...still waiting on ivy's, Banneker Key awarded in the meanwhile but now stuck on mit outcome...
this whole process is so stressful, i wish they told all us about all the schools the same day.

I don’t understand this either. Would love more of an explanation and details there.

Best of luck!
Banneker Key is highly selective. Expect some good results on ivy day.
