Is retirement an age or an asset number for you?

I mean she finally has a taste of freedom after raising 2-4 kids. Her husband is bringing in good income. She is most likely 2-4 years younger so her medical depends on him. Her income stream is cut greatly if he retires before full retirement age of 67. She gets stuck with expensive medical bills and now she has to deal with him getting in the way and wanting breakfast and lunch.

My math the absolute earliest I can retire is 67 as wife will almost be 65 after I get my bonus for year then we can do Cobra a few months and go straight to medicare for her.

the wife wants the husband to be happy and rested?

Also the wife wants to hang out with her husband? Believe it or not, the wife actually chose the person to spend the rest of her life with.

This. If you read the initial post in this subthread and thought that it resembled your marriage, I have bad news - you are in the wrong marriage.

+1000

Why stay married if you don't want to enjoy life together 95%+ of the time? (Because yes when they are home 100%, sometimes they get annoying, but that happens even in good marriages at times)

who cares. My mom waited till she had to do RMDs and then did minimum she then split it up 4 ways when she died to the kids. Then kids have ten years to pull it out. Allowing it to grow even more. And the tax bracket is not bad since split four ways kids are taxes way less on RMDs.

My mom changed the beneficiaries of her 401k from her two children to her 4 grandchildren who are all currently in their 20s and don’t have large incomes (2 are still in college). Their tax bills when they inherit will be much lower than if she left the money to her children.

neither. I’m 48 and burnt out. It’s as long as I can last until I throw in the towel. At this rate it will be a struggle to get 7more years out of me.
