Why is engineering major so popular?

I fear engineering will become oversaturated. Also, it is a difficult major and a I have a feeling the ones who aren't mathy/physical science types are weeded out because they don't know what they are getting themselves into.

Because it is difficult, it will not become oversaturated. Because it attracts bright students at present, there are many non-engineering career options open.

The liberal arts destroyed themselves. Engineering hasn't, yet.
