Please post research that shows this. I've known many people who are extremely sharp in their late 80s and early 90s. My mother was working until she was 96, and she was a psychotherapist. She was brilliant, and her mind never wavered, but her body gave out on her.

That is wonderful, but surely you realize how incredibly rare this is, right? Never in my life have I encountered someone in the workforce in their 90s. I can’t think of a single business that would hire an 80 year old for a high-level position.

If our local school system hired an 80 year old superintendent (or school principal since most of them work harder than superintendents), many folks would be outraged. Magnify the important demands of that job by a 1000, add in a four year term and that's the job of POTUS. We'll be scratching our heads for decades trying to figure out how we were duped into the Trump/Biden presidencies.

Anyone who has cared for dementia patients can see the signs in Trump.

Two of the most obvious are the lethargy during the day and the insomnia from sundowning.

Another obvious marker is his change in posture and the way he walks. It's called dementia posturing. It's when they have a stooped posture and a lean when walking or standing. The next decline you'll see is him missing stairs because their depth perception is usually the next thing to go.

You recognize that both of these things can be true, right? 99.9% of people decline over the age of 80, means 0.1% don't or do so to a much lesser degree.

My dad was like this. Early on he realized something was wrong, but when he got to Trump's stage he had no idea.

I can see your point. My own parent was similar with the dementia and TV. But I never knew if the TV watching was a result of the dementia (easy to just watch) or if the TV contributed to the dementia.

You're right about learning languages. I was reading about that and learned that a second language can delay dementia, but it won't prevent it. Diet plays a role, too.

Trump has a bad diet, I hear.

Alzheimer's and dementia start long before we know it.

I'm sorry to hear that. He may have gotten dementia earlier if he had not done those things. We just don't know enough about it.

My mother is 74 and has similar hearing and eyesight problems. She also is prone to rambling and jumping from topic to topic. She's not as vindictive, but she's very riled up against her neighbors!

Trump was photographed wearing glasses in court while reviewing papers. He actually looked better with his glasses.

This is one of the problems with our country. People take a single personal story (" my mother was sharp until she died") and try to argue that this shows everybody is like their mother. When will people realize that a single instance of something in means absolutely nothing? Maybe try thinking about the vast number of over 80 year olds you know. Surely you know at least 100? Would you say most of them could do math in their head as fast as they could when they were in their 20s? If not, yes, there is some "cognitive decline" (and please don't argue that doing math is not cognitive because the OP said "some cognitive decline" not "decline is some specific area you cherrry pick".

Since everybody lies and politicized "science" is totally untrustworthy...first hand information from your own eyes and ears is by far the greatest source of truth .

and your eyes are telling you that most over 80 year olds are as sharp as they were at 20? that they have no cognitive decline? that they learn as fast as they ever did? really? maybe then you need cataract surgery.
