You understand that she is Korean, right?

What ever was that about?

Don't tell me - I'm sure someone was horribly insulted - I just don't know who, or why.

Who would do a better job? I haven't seen any evidence that Gray could attract and retain a more talented person. I fear we'll go right back to the way things were in a short period of time and all you complainers will be complaining again.

Thank you! I agree 100 percent.

Although criticisms of Rhee's political personality are founded, the dozens of bad, ineffective teachers didn't get fired until Rhee arrived. In the end, it's all about the teachers.

A good teacher will make do with mediocre facilities--students will still learn; a bad teacher with even the best, most modern facilities still won't teach well.

Monica Taylor, Mildred Musgrove, Barbara Childs, Gwendolyn Jones, Jacqueline Williams and others who were all African-American females who were principals at the comprehensive high-schools have summarily dismissed by Rhee. If I were a female I wouldn't go within 101 miles of Rhee's version of the American school house.

Asian woman who has been irritated by white males and African-American females.

i'm sorry...what's her "talent"??? she had no teaching experience and limited administrative experience. from what i've seen, she's just a bull in a china shop. DCPS reform will not live or die by rhee's departure. i've been undecided during this mayoral election season, but everyday i lean closer and closer to Gray. I just don't like rhee's posturing for fenty. it's unseemly. she's not the only person in the world who can do this job.

Ah, but see, to the Rhee-haters, *nothing* positive that happens during her tenure is attributable to Rhee. It's all the work of Janey (now *he* was fantastic!). What about any positive gains after Rhee leaves? Well, all credit is of course due to whomever Gray happens to appoint, who will also be the best ever.

Calling people who disapprove of Rhee "Rhee-haters" implies to me that any disapproval is perceived to be based solely on erroneous reasoning and misguided emotion and thus should be discounted.

I have not heard people who approve of Rhee being called "Rhee Worshippers" but maybe it's an appropriate term, as they seem to cast their opinions of her in stark terms of good and evil and are convinced that the schools will go to hell without her.

Strange power she has over people.

13:12 how dare you make such a statement. Don't you know that to the Rhee-worshipers, she is the messiah. I've actually seen people bow down before her.

Actually, this is a false equivalency. Most Rhee-supporters are like PP above. They think she's made an honest effort, admit she may not have been perfect, but feel she's done fairly well in what is an extremely difficult and thankless job. Most Rhee-haters (as distinguished from those who disagree with her policies) seem to have a visceral hatred of the woman, and to even acknowledge that she might have children's best interests at heart is so far beyond the pale, they'd rather pull their own tongues out of their heads than admit it a possibility. I can post about thirty examples from various DCPS threads on DCUM.

Understand the difference?

This isn't what I see at all. Please review some of the posts I've written about the Chancellor--I believe there's one in this very thread. Look at Jeff's list of criticisms.

Sure, there are people on both sides that seem to make this bizarrely personal. But I don't believe that such people are the majority. As I've said before, give us some credit.

I concede that Jeff has a list of valid criticisms. I disagree--or disagree on the matter of relevance--but that's kosher in politics. I haven't made a study of your posts, but you sound pretty reasonable. I'm talking about the numerous commenters who are clearly driven insane by Rhee. If that's not you, that's fine. But they're out there in force; and there's not an equivalent to them on the pro-Rhee camp.

One last time:

Most Rhee-haters ([b]as distinguished from those who disagree with her policies[/b) seem to have a visceral hatred of the woman.

Hard to engage when folks are accusing her of fucking Fenty (as someone "joked" on one thread yesterday). Or that she hates black women because she's asian (as someone said on another thread).

Sorry, but that turns me off for some reason.
