He's trashy. Just listen to him speak. His wealth has always seemed questionable with all of the bankruptcies and he's long been a sideshow joke in NYC society. He's the son of a slumlord from Queens and he could never shake that (nor does it seem he ever really tried.) On a personal, relationship level he's a bully, rapist cheater. No "higher rung" woman with options would go near him. Same for his kids. If Ivanka could have done better than the son of a felon she would have but this family is just odious to the part of society they long to be a part of.
