College list for engineering schools

It's not east coast, but University of Dayton.

Mine considered that one but went with Manhattan, Pitt and UVM for likelies.

Might also have included Clarkson in RD, but got in all EA plus ED reach, so never got there.

Dayton is a really great school.

They have an "explore engineering day" coming up on November 9. It's full, but there is a wait list. And even if you don't get a spot, if you sign up for the waitlist they'll probably keep you updated on any future events.

My son is diligent, engaged, and truly enjoys his math and science classes—he’s always engaged annd aska his teachers for help when needed, and consistently puts in effort without prompting. We haven’t done test prep or tutoring, so while his SAT/AP scores aren’t sky-high, we’re looking into options. We’re adding lots of safety schools to the list.

Shame on those who felt the need to suggest he “won’t make it” in engineering school. That kind of negativity isn’t helpful. Hopefully folks don’t put on that added pressure on their own kids who are less than perfect. Everyone has something to work on. Thanks, and have a great night.

I think what set some people off was saying he was shooting for Georgia Tech or Rice. People on here are blunt. Sometimes they are wrong. Realistically, you need some schools between Georgia Tech and WVU. Maybe OOS at Penn State or Minnesota? What does he want to major in? Some are harder to get into than others.

My son is interested in engineering, his stats aren't even close to your sons, and we are looking at smaller private schools. We feel he will need access to professors and that would be hard to do at largers schools.

Good luck.

Good luck to your son! Engineering is definitely a tough one to navigate. My DS ended up at Purdue and just loves it, focusing on mechanical engineering. He had a long application process with ups and downs but it all worked out in the end. Just make sure you have lots of targets and safeties on there; I really feel like 6 isn’t enough. And FWIW, Rice and GT are impossible to get into! There are so many good engineering programs so it will just take some time and research. I assume your son is a Junior? Good luck, it will all work out.
