It does sound like people are made uncomfortable by parents standing "on the wrong side". Otherwise, why complain about it in a forum? Have a great day. |
| Thread is more evidence of toxicity of soccer parents |
OP here...100% why I posted in the first place haha. I am happy to report that my kid's pre-ECNL match was civil and almost pleasant this weekend. However, we did dominate so that may have helped. |
And they are so clueless they're toxic they're actually here justifying it State of current society |
Sitting on the wrong side is usually only seen at the younger U8 or U9 levels when parents are still new travel soccer. I've seen it some at older ages but only lower levels like 3rd or 4th team where kids are coming out of rec and the parents haven't figured it out yet. No one wants to intentionally sit with the other team's parents except for maybe one of the PPs that seems to find joy in annoying other adults. |
Yeah I'm not new and my kids play ECNL...so not top top level but up there. I will walk down to the "wrong side" if I need a better view. My kid is a defender and if they are playing a tough team they are in their own third for long periods. Not sure why this is so contentious to so many of you adults. I don't believe anyone was talking about sitting with the other fans...like dropping their gear and taking up residence for the game. Also...are you sure that hasn't happened? Meaning, you are keeping track of who crosses the imaginary line in each game? You sound like a know-it-all who likely doesn't. |
Different poster - just stay on your damn side. The leagues have these rules for a reason. I'm sure you're completely quiet and very knowledgeable (lol), but many are not and it causes all of these unnecessary conflicts. |
Nah...i'll walk down. |
| Same poster as above - completely forgot to mention if you're ECNL you'll have access to game footage afterwards. You can easily stay on your side and review the video later, but I guess the rules don't apply to you. |

| Its wild how much this bothers yall. |
So glad you mentioned it...I was just deleting those links up until now. |
All it takes is one idiot to ruin it for everyone. I'm sure many soccer parents have seen that idiot and have formed strong opinions from it. |
Nah I'm good, I'll watch my kid on whatever side I want. And fyi, I'm quiet because I'm NOT knowledgeable lol! |
| It's funny how "mental" all of you are acting on a thread to call out "mental parents". You are proving OP right. Bunch of lunatics out there and on here. So...I guess I'll join everyone...as far as where parents should be. Yes, parents should be across from your team and stay there. If one or two cross over to watch their kid because maybe a forward or a GK...of course we judge you as a helicopter parent but don't say anything to you. However, if more than 1 or 2 come over, I view this as the parents are just being a bunch of as-sholes and are looking for trouble. It's really not hard to just stay on your side. However, I did see a parent from another team run the sideline the whole game yelling to his kid before. Thank goodness that was only once. |
