A lot of DCUMS will steer you to Blair ("Blair envy" is a myth perpetuated from when Blair was a top school 10-15 years ago). Nowadays it's not that good a school. Check the school profile and you'll see what I mean.

If you were not set on Silver Spring, a school that African Americans excel in is Poolsville (currently the top school in MCPS).

Good luck!

Except that is not a majority African Americans school.

Does Poolesville even have any AA students?

There are a lot of minorities in Poolesville.

Poolesville is 7.7% Black

You will lose the opportunity for a great education because of only 7% of your racial group are in the school? What do you think will happen if your kid goes to Poolesville?

OP: "I’m interested in a school cluster that has a significant amount of African American students."

There are a lot of minorities in Poolesville.

The population of Poolesville is 1,242: 78% non-Hispanic white, 0.3% Black or African-American, 9.2% Asian-American, 5.5% two or more races. Also, 8.3% Hispanic or Latino (of any race). I would not consider that "a lot of minorities in Poolesville", but your opinion may be different.

this is not 1976 - all the schools will be just great. You seem to be instilling fear and racism in your family.

Truely a very easy demographic to google. All the school districts post this data.

Also OP: "...African American students, but also ones that do extremely well and are well supported."

Not enough to just have a dream for your kid.

You need to take solid steps to realize these dreams, and strategize for the long term.

That's among the lowest AA% in the county.

I would focus on schools with FARMs rates below 30%. Academics start to suffer once it gets higher.

That's definitely not Poolesville or the W schools (looking at you, Whitman and Churchill).
Blacks are not supported there.

Or Columbia or Laurel.

This sounds like a go. The northernmost parts of silver spring/ aspen hill areas are cheap and pleasant.
