Georgetown or Northwestern

It's not only located in a heavily Jewish area, population-wise, several of its hallmark programs and schools are named after Jewish donors, the current president is Jewish -- as were the last two presidents.

Being anti-genocide and protesting peacefully to that end is NOT antisemitic. It's really disheartening to see so many Jewish alums, both at NU and at other institutions, make these conflations.

Heck, this video was taken at Northwestern: https://twitter.com/TalbertSwan/status/1784412078704337009

But to answer your question, OP, Northwestern. Hands down.

+1 - In also Jewish and deeply Zionist. I’m also very comfortable with peaceful protests, even when I disagree with their mission. To me, that is 100% American, and more broadly, a feature of a healthy democracy.

I protested Netanyahu this past summer in Tel Aviv. Many of my Israeli friends disagreed, but no one tried to shame me out of attending, let along tried to shut the protests down. Democracy means allowing differences of opinion - even when you disagree and it feels uncomfortable. (But uncomfortable does not automatically mean insane.)

Typo!! 🤦‍♀️ I meant uncomfortable does not automatically mean unsafe.

I heard about Yale, UCLA, and Michigan. First I’ve heard about NU.

Why isn’t Brown called also

Jewish family here with a kid at NU. My kid never felt threatened or uncomfortable. Most of the things that would have happened normally on campus happened even with the encampment going on (Nothing that my kid was involved with got cancelled or postponed.) We felt that the admin did a good job of walking a line and not escalating.

Thanks for the insight.

My kid committed to Northwestern. Then this ridiculous appeasement concession happened.

We are really hoping that the wealthy alumni exert a lot pressure on the school to throw it out.

We spoke to some Jewish students from the school before committing a few weeks back at the start of this mess. At the time, they said they felt safe and supported by the school.and community. Do you have any insight on how things are now for the students?

Northwestern has a huge Jewish presence. Crazy to see this thread being astroturfed by people with an agenda trying to paint the school as antisemitic.

They are trying to kick Hillel off campus. Our Jewish tour guide in March admitted to us that he didn’t think the administration was doing enough.

Which schools did your kid choose Northwestern over?

That is completely false. No one is trying to kick Hillel off campus. I don’t like the agreement that was struck, and I have plenty of criticism about how the president has handled the situation, but he is a very strong supporter of Hillel and goes for the holidays himself.

What does it say that you are hoping that billionaires weigh? What does it say that you want money to decide this? It says you prefer a ruling financial elite to democracy, when push it comes to an issue close to you. Maybe all issues.

What does it say when Northwestern has a campus in Qatar? The same place that leaders of Hamas live in 5 star luxury.

I suspect that all kinds of people live in luxury in Qatar, as they do in the US, including Chicago. So are you fine with billionaires deciding a school’s policy on student protestors as long as it’s billionaires that agree with you? Which regimes does this put you in line with? Where do you stand on democracy on other issues?

You missed the point. Billionaires (Royal family) in Qatar, who allow heads of a terrorist organization to live there, might be dictating terms to NU since they have a campus in Doha. It works both ways.

The funny thing is, Qatar has given many hundreds of millions of dollars to both Northwestern and Georgetown.

This is silly. Hamas is in Qatar at the request of the United States and Israel.
