It's not that odd to not use plus or minus on report cards. |
So you would want there to be just two marking periods, each a semester in length. |
That is exactly what people are complaining about--MCPS's policies make grades largely meaningless. It means the way kids can distinguish themselves is with SAT/ACT/AP exam scores. |
Yes, and I think if you had bothered to read the thread or even the posts you are responding to, you would understand that people are being critical of MCPS' method. |
I am well aware of that, thanks. I was explaining how their method works because some PPs seemed to be making incorrect assumptions. |
Who's really complaining? DCUM and agitators |
No, we want the county to add the quarterly 79.5 and 89.5 and divide by 2, resulting in a semester average of 84.5 and a semester grade of B. Not: rounding the 79.5 to a B and the 89.5 to an A. Then, converting those to 3 and 4. Then, averaging those to 3.5. Then, rounding up to a 4. Then, assigning a semester grade of A. |
Once a marking period ends, they assign a letter grade. They could round down and assign a C and a B to those numbers instead, but then they would still have to combine those into a semester grade. |
Folks need to chill. It's a race to nowhere. In my experience, HS kids today have at least 1000% more work + extracurricular expectations than the GenX parents ever had. Many are super stressed.
There are very fancy private schools with no grades at all. Grading is not an inherent part of education. |
NO OP is a Troll Every college except those religious nutbag places like Liberty and Hillsdale recalculates grades you morons. This thread is stupid and OP is either a troll or just dumb. This is not a hard concept except for DCUM garbage. |
This is really the answer. What a shock it would be! |
Exactly, this isn't a real problem. It just goes against the premise that schools are kid prisons which these posters are fond of... |
Or at least offer more Honors for All classes! It's so wonderful to boost everyone to a higher standard. |
She was told wrong. This isn't a real problem. Please return to complaining about start times or toilet security... |
I am not sure how they would offer more honors for all. Next year at BCC even biology is honors for all. |
