Your dream school

I went to Amherst in the 90s and absolutely loved it. I met my husband and made life long friends there. So if I could go back to Amherst of the 1990s, I would. If I were to choose a similar college today, I'd choose my daughter's Davidson which seems to have a student experience more like early 90's Amherst than the Amherst of today (and nicer weather to boot).

Went to a regional LAC in the southwest and now wonder if I'd have enjoyed a midwestern SLAC. But I didn't have a dream school as a high school senior.

Wait, is this about my dream school now, as a middle-aged person? Then I'd pick a small school with a Pomona-ish climate and work my way through the liberal arts curriculum pass-fail over five years in my robe and slippers.

Amherst is a better school.

NOT. Plus it’s super cliquish — athletes vs non athletes — remote and freezing. Davidson has none of these issues. I’d pick Davidson without question if given the choice.

I attended Harvard as well. I would not call it a dream school. I would actually call it a mythical place. It is not a real place in many senses.

This is likely to be my kid. Hard to justify $80-90k year against in-state UVA tuition, especially as UVA is now ranked 24.

Ranking doesn’t mean much in the context….

Harvard is a dream school for many cuz it exists only in fantasy. It is what it is after the Claudine Gay fiasco. It's been exposed as one of the most corrupt institutions in the world headed by then Olympic gold medalist in plagiarism and racism.
