Council hearing on MCPS

Anonymous
There are an unknown number of unresolved HR complaints in the system currently and neither the top staff or the BOE president know the answer to how many complaints have either been left to go fallow or are still under active investigation. WOW. I guess that speaks to how badly things were done, and the chaos that churned, under McKnight.

MCPS looks terrible in this hearing thus far.

It was a simple yes or no question with kindergarten math.

Yep.

Albornoz: "Sadly this reveals that you can't always take what the superintendent says at face value."

The older bald man seems to have McKnight’s back.

Only 2 FT investigators now for DCI. Some part-time and temporary staff as well.

I guess MCPS has no funds to address this lack of DCI resources at the current time because of the huge budget shortfall that came to light in January.

DCI, yikes! Only lunch and learn trainings for how to address newly developed system of accepting anonymous complaints.

Evans: Ms. Sylvestre, why did we get this unredacted report just an hour before this hearing? Sylvestre: Excellent question - we have had a busy week. We had your formal request from Monday to get an unredacted report. Evans: I've been asking for an unredacted report for quite some time. Sylvester: We had to go back to the attorneys to see what we could give you.

Balcombe: It's difficult to assess the resources for DCI need to be upped, since it's been so dysfunctional. I am reluctant to support more funding for DCI if the same people in DCI are still there and these people allowed complaints to go unanswered or not followed through on. I don't have faith in existing employees, who may not be equipped to do the job.

Sayles: Is the Damascus HS principal and football coach still employed by MCPS, during the time period when the assault case occurred, for which $10 million was awarded to the affected football players and families.

Answer: Yes, they are still employed by MCPS.

Dawn Ludke kicks ass. I hope she sees this. I’m glad she’s on the council to ask the core questions without the bs.

Sayles: Was the superintendent from this (Damascus HS incident) time period asked to resign?

Silvestre: No.

Sayles: Why was Dr. McKnight asked to resign?
