Food, Cooking, and Restaurants
I don't see what all the fuss is about this place. I've been a couple times, and it's always dirty and the ice cream (excuse me... CUSTARD) is fine-- I mean, it's sugar and fat, how can that NOT be good-- but it doesn't knock my socks off or anything. And I agree that the service leaves something to be desired. Can't understand why people go ga-ga over this shop.
Please stop judging. I have a toddler that will not go to sleep sometime until very late. We have tried everything. On several occasions when my DH was out of town, I have taken her to the grocery store to pick up some milk or cough medicine. I am glad I did not run into people like you.

Yes, the sign is on the door- we didn't see it as someone held the door open for us. The sign wasn't the issue, nor the stroller rule... it was the rude owner who was letting someone else with a stroller order where she pounced on us immediately. Not a good way to do business. I can understand the stroller issue for the most part... just was not a good first impression of the place, and they will never get my business.
This is what is great about America, you can be rude to customers, and they can choose to spend their money elsewhere!
Let me say from the start that I don't really like the custard. But my son likes it, so we go and just leave the stroller outside. He is always happy to have an excuse not to be in it. We go fairly frequently (twice a month or so) and I have never met the owner, but the counter staff has always been really nice to him.
It's not about the strollers for us. It's the owner. She looks overwhelmed all the time, never smiles and lacks any positivity. When she does smile (very rarely) it is fake and forced and most of all annoying. They have not sprinkles, I mean c'mon! Kids love that stuff, how tough would it be to get some. We used to go there all the time, but have stopped after being scolded by the owner a few times.
We stopped going there as well. It is overpriced and I noticed that they stacked their reviews on yelp, google, etc. with false 5 stars. Blah service, blah custard, expensive for what you get. We moved on...and usually go to Buzz Bakery now. And they are open until midnight!
We only went twice this summer. Found a Baskin Robbins in our neighborhood to be cheaper and friendlier.
If my 17 year old daughter was closing at her restaurant job and the door is locked, I would tell her NEVER open it for someone after closing. All the big retail chains advise this to their employees , too. If you know anything about the business, they are counting up the money and it is probably sitting out on the counter in a bag. It is risky to the store and to the salesperson for them to arbitrarily open the door to ANYONE. Not only is it a liability issue, but it is risky. Don't you have crime in Maine? For all that employee knows you are a scammer using the kid to get the employee to open the door, and then an armed robber runs in. If you expect the poor kid behind the counter to risk her life (she doesn't know YOU from a crazy person... or a thief) YOU have serious issues, OP. Why didnt you just bring your kid home to pee?
OK, folks, we've spent a year trashing DGM, warranted or not. Time to shut it down, there is nothing more useful to contribute. Frankly, if I were Jeff, I would lock this thread.
Huh, well, I guess it's not up to you though. |
So, if you really have a just complaint against this business, why wouldn't you post it on Angie's List, an appropriate forum, as opposed to posting here anonymously? I mean, if you feel you are justified in trashing someone else's means of living, why wouldn't you do so in an appropriate manner and be willing to put your name behind it? PS-what about the fact that this post is a year old and the new posts add nothing helpful or useful? Are you a competitor of DGM? Because that would explain a lot. It's a big world out there-having a strong character goes a lot further than random venom about silly happenings. |
