ECP Chesapeake has folded. I just got an email. This is my DD’s former club, she had been attending the invite only clinics, they took our money. I am now contesting with my credit card. |
The former director of ECP Chesapeake- Chris Smith, is starting a new club: Renaissance Chesapeake. It will be DC and Delaware branches of a club based out of Pittsburgh. The information for the DC clinics should be up and ready for registration Monday, 10/16. The tryouts will be at Georgetown Day School all day Saturday 11/4. The age specific times and registration links will be on the website by next Wednesday 10/18.
The website has the clubs that he will field but without the detailed info as of yet (coaches, tournament and practice schedules are not up). There will be 11U to 18U . Two teams for the 14-17U ages. He has his coaches and has already registered for all the tournaments. Practice facilities will be at GDS and Spring Hill rec center (I am unsure if there will be one more). Since you are the PR, where is my money? |
I don’t know where your money, or my money or any of my teammates money is- you need to ask ECP. One of my teammates tried to get her money back and ECP replied that “they don’t refund after 7 days….” |
Some of the clinics haven’t even occurred yet. It’s fraud. |
For players looking for alternative clubs to play with, here's a quick list of who we found based on where their practice facilities are located. We're looking for something on the DC/MD side and close to the city. Metro Central (only 1 team per age group): Practice at GDS/around DC https://metrovbc.sportngin.com/tryouts-schedule MOCO (2-3 teams per age group): Practice at Stone Ridge School https://mocovc.sportngin.com/tryouts Spiked City DC (1 team per age group): Practice at Maret/Coolidge https://www.spikedcitydc.com/club-volleyball Some of their tryout times are already full, so we are reaching out to them asking for help given the situation. We are also signing up for their pre-club clinics to make sure we can see the level of play and their coaches. So far response has been very positive from the clubs. |
I would second MOCO for those in DC. My DD previously played for MOJO and ECP before going to MOCO and has had a great experience with MOCO. And the practice locations are easier to get to from DC than some of the other clubs which is a factor for our family. |
We have been trying to get a refund too. We were told they won’t refund. I’m also contesting with my credit card. |
Agree with prior posters - Moco, Mojo, Vienna, Paramount 2s will likely benefit from ECP closure.
it sure looks like ECP DC folded bc no coaches were left Almost all of the ECP DC head coaches (U13, U14, U16 and many assistants) went back to Mojo. U18 retired mid season last year. So the big question is why —- Why did all the former ECP DC coaches choose Mojo? |
I would say at this point, Vienna Elite was on par with ECP. They have multiple teams for each age and DMV elite for college recruiting. I have seen their coaches at clinics/tournaments and would say they got a good thing going |
Here's my question: How many of the former ECP coaches and club staff reached out to specific players BEFORE the announcement, with the intent of convincing the best players to leave and come with them? And how many players did they not talk to -- leaving them to scramble at the last minute to search for other places to play? We know this happened, because a PP talks about how the ECP invite only clinic numbers declined drastically. Thats not a random thing. There's also a new club (headed by the former ECP club director) posting in this thread about how they will have teams, have already registered for tournaments, etc. There's no way they didn't talk to their "chosen" players ahead of the announcement today and tell them they had a place to play with them at the new club. As a coach, how in the world do you justify that behavior? If you just coached a club team for more than 6 months, how can you be so callous as to tell some players and not tell the others? How does a club director let that happen? We could never trust that director or coach again, no matter how good a coach they were, how good a director they are or how much my DD loved playing for them. |
Also, where did everyone's money go? If they paid for things that haven't happened yet, it should easily be refunded. |
Why would anyone sign up to play with known fraudsters? |
My understanding is that ECP is a very large conglomerate- has 7-8 branches and is run by 3Step. The decisions made by ECP, such as “change in leadership”, canceling clinics without refunds, canceling club season- has nothing to do with the former director, or his new club. From what I have heard, the mojo/ECP split, as well as the director split/formation of the new club are reactions to/results of changes made by 3Step/admin. It is a large business after all and they will make decisions that they believe will benefit their bottom line, as all large businesses do. (Don’t understand why they are not refunding everyone for clinics that have not happened..). This is to say that it is unfair to call the new club “a bunch of fraudsters” as they have nothing to do with ECP refunds. Regarding Mojo and the new Renaissance club -The word is that half the coaches went to Mojo and the other half to Renaissance. I guess when both clubs post their coaches in full- will see. Seems like the directors of both clubs are doing what they can to make sure their clubs are up and running with all these last minute changes. Personally am Hoping they both work out as they should both be pretty good options for somewhat competitive teams. |
Re “Chosen players” hypothesis above. I’m not sure that had anything to do with ECP invite clinic numbers dropping off. At least with my kid, who played for an ECP1 team and did not come off the floor. She preferred the coaches who went to Mojo and did not enjoy the clinic when it was run by Chris and the remaining coaches (now ? moved onto Renaissance). I have heard that Renaissance has been reaching out to certain players, but my kid is not one of them — we haven’t spoken with Chris since he left ECP. If there is an invite clinic for Renaissance then we certainly don’t know about it. I reached out to Mojo myself and will take her to those clinics and tryouts. Renaissance seems to be using this DCUM thread to get info out instead of having an actual webpage. Super unprofessional. |
