The Resource Officer gave her my phone number and she texted me.

At this age, shouldn’t the parents be as hands off as possible?

Huh? Did you even read the post? The kid was at sports practice and the key was in his backpack. Is he supposed to field baseballs or grip a lacrosse stick with his car keys in his hand?

Where does it say sports practice? Are you OP?

And through this whole exchange of talking to you and somehow getting you money....you never learned her name or her kid's name?

OP said the backpack was left on a field. It’s not a stretch to assume sports practice but you win, maybe it was PE class 🙄.

OP here, she never offered his name and I didn’t ask. It doesn’t make a difference, the kids did not know each other.

OP here, I am not reviewing my posts but he was at a dryland practice (he normally works out daily at the aquatic center with the school team) on a school field as it’s the end of the school year and competing high school swim teams have a fun ultimate frisbee game next week. My son left his keys in his bag in the field.

Does that clear up your question.

How did you get the money from her?

The Mom Venmo’d me. I obviously know her name but not her sons.

The child was the victim of theft. I am sure the lesson learned of trust no one anywhere, even on school grounds has been learned. There is no reason that the crime victim should have consequences that can be avoided by his parents. Ridiculous to suggest that actually. Do you think that all victims of crime need to have consequences?

I would hate to be your kid. I know parents that blame their kid for anything that happens to them. OP's son was a crime victim.

How did she get you the money? Anything other than cash - you’d know her name. With cash, wouldn’t you see her face?

OP said Venmo. You might try to read the whole thread first, pp.

I'd still press charges, even after they reimburse for the re-keying. Their son's behavior is wrong, and they are just paying it off. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I like what you did there.

This makes no sense as swim for school is a winter sport. It isn't happening in May.
