What do you *REALLY* think of Atheists?

Atheists that have done research and spent time investigating a higher power. Much more respect.

Atheists who are just going a long with what the left tells them to. No respect.

Atheists who are Atheists because they parents were and have never looked into anything else? Disappointing.

Most atheists are simply skeptics who don't believe in things without sufficient evidence to do so.

That's it.

Your categories, guesses or judgments aren't really germane.

FYI - many atheists today have done a lot of research and spent a lot of time investigating a higher power because they were raised in a religion that they began to question as adults.

Also, does your respect gauge work for believers? e.g., do you have respect for believers that have done research and spent time investigating a higher power? Very few have -- most, like me, just learned religion from their parents.

How about believers who are believers because their parents were and have never looked into anything else? Are you disappointed in them? They account for a lot of believers.

Despite the undisputable evidence that they exist?

They spend too much time thinking about God and a Higher Power to be true non-believers.

Wrong. Bad logic. By that logic, anyone who takes a side in a discussion can only be on the side of the alternative? That's nonsense.

DP and I don’t think that was the logic. The logic was probably that so many of you frequent the religious forum and threads about religion that you have really left religion behind. And no, coming on here to blast Catholics several times a week isn’t a public service or however you tey to justify it.

Can you read? Reading is fundamental. The post is entitled, "What do you *REALLY* think of Atheists?"

Does this mean believers in God should do deep research into the Loch Ness monster before declaring that they don't believe in him?

How about Santa Claus and fairies?

DP here. Pejoratives do not reflect well on you. That post was clearly in response and totally relevant to the discussion as it was meant to point out the hypocrisy of the answer given.

If you consider yourself religious, what do you think of Atheists? My father-in-law won't say it but I'm pretty sure he thinks I worship the Devil and I know he thinks I'm going to hell. There is more to this story but it sometimes gets me thinking that those who practice their faith openly may have some strong opinions they're not saying.

Hoping for some honest replies but if you feel inclined to tell me how wrong my choice is I promise you I've already heard it so I probably won't read more than the first few words of what you post. I respect others' choices and just want the same.

Honestly, some of the nicest people I know profess to be atheists. But I feel sorry for them, because the more that I get to know them, the more I see the God-sized hole in their lives.

That's some seriously patronizing stuff right there. Would you like it if they said they see the giant god delusion taking up too much space in your life? No, you would not.

But it doesn't bother me because I am pretty sure it is untrue. Why don't you describe how this "god-sized hole" manifests?

Sorry this makes you so defensive. That's a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Atheists are always seeking, even if they don't admit it to themselves.

Your post makes no sense. My post is seeking nothing and mentions nothing about it. It is a strawman you made up. That's kinda shameful.

“Atheists are always seeking, even if they don't admit it to themselves.”

What is wrong with always seeking the truth in lieu of settling for fairy tales?

Absolutely nothing wrong with seeking truth. Just don’t be shocked when the truth leads you to God.

Does the fact that you frequent the religion forum often enough to know that atheists blast catholics several time a week mean that you are about to reject catholicism?

Do you think the religion forum is just for religious believers, or can people with different Points of view about religion participate?

Many atheists were once religious, but I don't think that many currently religious people were once atheists, and thus are not in a very good position to speculate on how atheists think.

I don't really come onto the Religion section of this site but this thread is in the most recent list so I took a peak. It's truly amazing too me how many non-believers spend their day attacking believers over their believes. They spend their days trying to talk people out of their religions. This strikes me as pure evil. Why would anyone do that? Why do you care if other people belive in God? Live and let live. The hate and disgust here is eye-opening for sure.

Are you seriously asking why people would discuss all views on religion in an open religion forum? You think you stating your beliefs here is cool but opposing beliefs are "evil"? Wowza...

My suggestion is that you find a forum specifically for people who share your beliefs. Personally I am happy to have mine challenged and ask for evidence all the time. If shown evidence, I will change my position. Can you say the same?

Why did you decide to post about how disgusting you think non-believers are?

Do you spend your days looking for groups that you disagree with to tell them how disgusting you think they are?

How would you like be called disgusting just because you respond to people who think you're disgusting -- just because you don't believe in something they believe in, without any evidence?

Is talking people out of their religion the same as disagreeing about religion to you? Disgusting.

I’m not Catholic, but it’s impossible not to notice the atheist religion-bashers and Catholic-bashers.

Of course people with different points of view can post.

But some of you are
1. evangelicals for atheism, as somebody above said, or
2. so hateful towards religion, especially but not limited to Catholicism…

that it’s clear religion still lives rent-free in your heads. What’s the saying about hatred being closer to love than neutrality is? You haven’t achieved the freedom you think you have.
