I just think it's strange that Ohio's elected Republican Senator, JD Vance, has barely had anything at all to say about this massive disaster in his state, and that he is not in the media discussing it, sponsoring legislation to help prevent future disasters like it, not sponsoring legislation to improve rail safety, hazardous waste transport, hazardous waste response or ANYTHING that would be even remotely useful.

Instead he's been busy doing things like posting idiotic pictures of himself posing with a gun pretending to be a tough guy who was gonna shoot down a balloon 60,000 feet up. (and special hint for the gun hugging morons like Vance - your gun can't even remotely reach something that high up - you're unqualified to own a gun if you don't even understand its capabilities).

What an embarrassing failure, Ohio. You should be deeply ashamed.

OMG. You are NOT paying attention.......You should do a little research before you go on a rant.

Do some research yourself, on the date of the derailment and the date of this statement. His first substantive statement about it.

Facts iz hard and Republicans don’t “do” facts.

Buttigieg was at the National Association of Counties Conference on Monday lecturing everyone on how construction sites aren't hiring enough minorities. Yeah, he really cares about a spill in Ohio.

Don’t be dense. NTSB is there. EPA is there. They are the lead federal response agencies. From DOT, the Federal Railroad Administration and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration have experts there supporting the NTSB and EPA. This isn’t a photo op event. It’s an environmental disaster and is being treated as such.

EPA and NTSB are "there" but largely on the sidelines, hamstrung by state and local response. The Biden White House offered the full array of federal disaster aid, "anything you need" but DeWine declined. State and local government are as of yesterday at least still the leads on it, not federal.

It really isn't surprising that a small town mayor promoted way above his ability isn't up to the job.

Video shows the East Palestine train with its brakes on fire a full 20 miles before it finally derailed. Republicans were the driving force behind being lax about train brake safety. This is on them.

Did I miss the part of the CNN story that highlights what Republican policies caused this train derailment?

These trains weren't hauling oil. They were hauling hazardous materials.
But if they were hauling oil, what's even safer than trains or pipelines is using less oil and switching to alternatives for energy.

So the lesson learned here then is to use pipelines for shipping hazardous things, not trains.

This exactly.

Again, so we should have a pipeline for every single discrete chemical? Because you can’t use the same pipeline for different chemicals that may interact badly.

So you want to have a separate pipeline for each individual hazardous material? Please explain how that would work.
