Just finished Chip War and it's truly excellent if you enjoy non-fiction.

Anonymous wrote:I just finished "What Alice Forgot" by Liane Moriarity. It was pretty good. Brief synopsis is that a woman bonks her head during spin class and afterward can't remember the last 10 years of her life. She tells the paramedics that she is 14 weeks pregnant with her first child while they are putting her in the ambulance. Later she finds out that she actually has 3 kids and is separated from her husband. The majority of the book was her getting to know her kids and trying to figure out why she is separated from her husband, whom she loved very much 10 years ago.

I really liked this book; I love amnesia books.

I had no idea "amnesia books" were so popular. What else do you recommend?

One I read about three years ago was called "Remember Me?" by Sophie Kinsella. In that book, Lexie wakes up in a London hospital and can't remember the last 3 years of her life. She went from a 25 year old working class girl to a corporate big shot with a wealthy husband.

Oh well this is the PP you asked, and that answer wasn't from me, but am happy to include it in my own list.
The one I liked the best was Nicole Krauss, Man Walks Into A Room.
But I have to admit I also like the Bourne series.

I just read Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister and LOVED IT (I posted another thread about it). 5 stars.

I read The House in the Pines, Ana Reyes, also a Reese book club picked and I enjoyed it but not as much. Probably 3.5 stars.

I'm reading Bully Market by Jamie Fiore Higgins about her 20 year career at Goldman Sachs and how awful it was (she stayed for the $$$) and it's awesome. So far 5 stars.

I've finished two books this year-

Butcher and the Wren - thriller/horror detective/serial killer book. First book in the series. It was good, but gory.

Spare - on audio. I REALLY enjoyed it, but don't want this thread to turn into a crazy thread, so that's all I will say. Definitely give it a listen.

This was the book that introduced me into Liane Moriarity, and after reading nearly all her others, it remains my favorite!

NP. I really liked “Big Little Lies” (read it way before the tv show). Her most recent one, “Apples Never Fall” was only mediocre.

I also didn't realize amnesia books were a thing, but I love time travel books, which can have sort of the same appeal -- the amnesiac or time traveler has the opportunity to look back on choices they've made and reassess -- and maybe redo -- them. One example of a hybrid time travel-amnesia book is Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore.

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle is another in the genre.

NP. Big Little Lies was a DNF for me, and I haven't tried any of her other books. I did not watch the TV show.

I'm reading Someone Else's Love Story by Joshilyn Jackson. I recently read Never Have I Ever by the same author but I didn't realize it was the same author when I started this one. I'm not far enough along to give an opinion yet, other than to say that the friendships of the main characters strikes me as unrealistic. Maybe I'll feel differently as I get farther into it.

Just finished An American Marriage and I can’t stop thinking about it
