My husband has been on for 6 weeks and started on a low dose (.25) and has moved to .5. He’s lost 15 pounds, to thr surprise of his doctor who says that most of his patients require higher doses to see results.
My DH feels he’s finally able to see the results of his efforts to lose weight. He has always put in a lot of effort but never enjoying the rewards. On the med he doesn’t succumb to cravings and feels fuller quicker and longer. His experience of normal was similar to the few days leading up to my period. |
That is an $1,800 program insurance won’t cover of course |
I've posted on the other threads but I didn't lose weight on Ozempic. After reading alllll the DCUM threads, I was so excited to quiet the food noise and lose weight but that didn't happen. I started mid-July and just stopped because I was worried I might be damaging my pancreas for no reason. I'm not insulin resistant and was tracking my food intake prior to starting Ozempic. I did not feel full and did not have side effects even at max dose (2mg). My BMI is 36.6 and insurance covered it. So I don't really understand how it works either. |
The pancreas stuff really scares me too |
So does it just make you eat less? Basically an appetite suppressant?
Or does it do more than that? |
Read the thread. |
I did and most comments mentioned not being hungry. |
Google the study. There is so much information about how these messages work. More than just appetite suppression. |
^ how these medications work. |
It mostly works by reducing appetite and therefore caloric input. Yes, it makes you less hungry and makes you get full faster. It also has a stabilizing affect on blood glucose which probably reduces cravings. |
All this. And it slows the emptying of the stomach, so you feel full faster. |
Thanks. So a few different mechanisms to make it easier to reduce caloric intake. |
Yes. But when it comes down to it it reduces how much you take in. It’s not changing your metabolism or how you store fat. You don’t eat the same things in the same amount as you did before and still lose weight. |

My reply got caught in the quote feature.
I experience all of this - appetite suppression, slower gastric emptying, absence of food cravings and noise. I’m a few days shy of 2 months and have lost nearly 20 pounds on Mounjaro. I’ve also increased my workouts (Peloton cycling and strength training) and upped my protein intake. |
