| Plenty of successful people in the world without a college degree. You don't need a GMU degree. |
are you seriously suggesting that a GMU BS in Computer Science is essentially the same as not having a college degree at all? That is pure C.R.A.Z.Y. Sure GMU, like EVERY school, has it's own style of campus/college experience. Some like it. Some prefer another flavor. But, to take YOUR dislike for the GMU college experience and extrapolate that GMU Com Sci degrees are therefore no better than having no degree at all, just reflects very poorly on you and your ability to assess value. Stop while you have any dignity left. |

GMU is a carnegie R1 university. There are only 145 carnegie R1 "very high reseach output" universities in the USA. It is an academic place
Especially for CS and Engineering. Those who are denigrating GMU are completely outdated in their characterization of the university and its degrees compared to its peers. |
\\\+1. They must be old. very few go off on that old "commuter school" harangue. It's the largest public university in Virginia with 40,000 students. All freshman have to live on campus. I've taken summer courses there. It's a lovely campus during summer. |
I don't think you know what game design is all about. See the new top gun movie? Almost all game design. Game design graduates work at the Pentagon, state department and all sorts of industries where training games have to be made for test pilots, fire fighters, another 9-11 response, etc. DS worked at the Virginia Serious Game Design Institute at GMU's Manassas campus. https://vsgi.gmu.edu/. |

GMU's VSGI is hired by the US government for war game simulation and military training. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_design

+1. The Game Design majors at the Mason Korea campus can call their own shots (along with the Cyber Security major graduates) when it comes to hiring. Mason Korea (Songdo, South Korea). from wiki Mason Korea Korea Campus University Campus Songdo Campus Korean: 송도 캠퍼스 Data Center, Library, Guest House, Student's Hall[h] Data Center, Library, Guest House, Student's Hall[h] Country South Korea Region Seoul Capital Area (Sudogwon) Metropolitan City Flag of Incheon.svg Incheon International Business District Songdo Postal Code 21985 Opened in March 2014, the Songdo campus is in South Korea's Incheon Free Economic Zone, a 42,000-acre (66 sq mi) site designed for 850,000 people. It's 25 miles (40 km) from Seoul and a two-hour flight from China and Japan, and is connected to the Seoul Metropolitan Subway. The Commonwealth of Virginia considers the Songdo campus legally no different from any other Mason campus, "... board of visitors shall have the same powers with respect to operation and governance of its branch campus in Korea as are vested in the board by the Code of Virginia with respect to George Mason University in Virginia ..."[85] Mason Korea students will spend the sixth and seventh semesters (one year) on the Fairfax Campus, with all other course work to be completed in Songdo. George Mason University Korea offers seven undergraduate programs: Management, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Global Affairs, Conflict Analysis and Resolution, and Computer Game Design. Mason Korea also has two graduate programs: Systems Engineering and IB & ESOL. Mason Korea's first commencement class graduated in December 2017.[86] Students from Mason Korea earn the same diploma as home campus students, with English as the language of instruction. |
There is a distinct difference between "serious game design" and video game design. They are not the same genre. |
| GMU at best is a second-tier in-state option, solidly behind UVA, WM, and VT. They are only getting the average/below average students from NOVA. It's still a commuter school (see OP's post). No amount of boosting is going to change that fact. GMU's peer schools are Radford, ODU, and JMU. |

This is so not true. A computer science degree from GMU (as well as many other degrees) are superior to same degree from Radford and ODU. While most degrees are probably on par with JMU, com sci and engineering are superior at GMU. |
Yes, however GMU CS would be better tier than useless majors from UVA, WM, and VT. |
I don't understand these GMU's boosters. They told us college name doesn't matter then went on to tell us GMU was somewhat superior to Radford or ODU. Which is it? Does the school name matter or not? |
School name itself doen't mean much for the most part. School name and major/proram together matters. |
