I was home for 2 years with my youngest (not really by choice). There is definitely a divide between parents staying home and parents working.

It is also incredibly difficult to live on just one income these days, unless it is VERY high.

There are a lot of things we could do to better support families in general - universal healthcare, affordable childcare, affordable housing options, etc.

But I really am still trying to figure out what exactly OP is advocating for.

If this is about supporting families, great. Being a SAHM is hard, being a working mom is hard, being a working dad is hard, being a SAHD is hard, being a single parent is hard…being a parent is hard. I support a woman’s right to choose - which is really a parent’s right to choose whether to work or stay hime when they are privileged enough to be in a position that it is even an available choice. I do not support making your choice, being miserable about it and complaining to the whole world non-stop about it (not saying OP is doing that). Like so many choices in life, there are pros and cons to both.

What would be the best way to put this issue on their agenda? Its not. SAHP is treated like a cocaine habit and men and women wanting to do this are labeled as lazy even by others who aren’t doing even half much as them. Human worth shouldn’t be tied to a job title or a paycheck.

What exactly should people being asking their congressperson to support? What types of legislation would be on this Homemakers Agenda plank in a party platform?
