If he had gotten zero votes, he still would have qualified. Do some research.

The township board consists of three members and only three candidates entered the Republican field, while no one filed to run on the Democratic ticket. Wilhoite garnered 60 votes, compared to his competitors’ 110 and 106 votes, stats cited by the newspaper show.

Anyone facing felony charges can still run for local office, but they become ineligible upon conviction, state election officials told the newspaper.

“Under our legal system, every person is innocent until proven guilty,” said Brad King, co-director of the Indiana Election Division. “If a candidate is ultimately convicted, then depending upon the timing of that conviction, the person can be replaced on the ballot by the political party that has a vacancy.”

But King noted there’s no law barring anyone who is jailed ahead of trial from “exercising the duties of their office” if they get elected.

Even if he was going to win with zero votes and even if he's innocent until proven guilty, it is not a good look to be jailed for your wife's murder. They should be able to disqualify him and let someone else take his place.

Different states have different laws. Some preclude someone who is indicted from serving. Sadly folks will vote for this guy to "own the libs" as if that is in any way showing respect for the deceased woman's memory.

I can't understand why someone does not primary her with the point that she has completely lost a voice in Congress because of her extremism that even the Republican Party leadership will not allow her to sit on committees or do any of the work of Congress. When party leadership does not trust you do to anything, you cannot fight for your constituents. Another candidate in the Republican party needs to campaign saying that they will work hard for the constituents and will regain the confidence of hard working Georgians, blah, blah, blah.

I cannot believe that no one is willing to campaign on the fact that she's a waste of taxpayer money in Congress and she does nothing is not trusted to do anything.
