Sleep training at 4 months - Recommended method?

Anonymous
My 4 month old doesn’t wake up to eat, but does want a pacifier reinserted/need help going back to sleep a few times. Does anyone have a recommended approach to sleep training at this age?

We swear by The Sleep Easy Solution. Used it with great success right at four months.

Our issues at four months though were an inability to put himself to sleep, and still eating once per night (plus dreamfeed). We used that book for CIO (with checks) to put himself to sleep and to slowly wean the last feed. I don't remember the details of what it says about something like a pacifier. But that's certainly where I'd start.

Do you help the baby go to sleep at bedtime (e.g. rock to sleep, feed to sleep)? At that age at bedtime and/or any night time wakeups we would let the baby cry for up to give minutes. If the baby didn't stop crying within five minutes I would turn the sound machine up, wait 2 minutes, if that did not work I'd put my hand on baby's chest for 1-2 minutes, if that did not work I'd jiggle the baby's chest with my hand (baby still in crib) for 1-2 minutes, if that did not work I'd give baby the pack, wait 2 minutes and if that did not work I would pick the baby up and cuddle her.

Another tip I heard about pacis is to take it out of baby's mouth while they are falling asleep so that it falling out does not wake them up.

We used extinction and kept one feed (after consulting pediatrician) for both kids

Precious Little Sleep worked great for us.
