I am getting tired of my bulky dark frames, because I think they create shadows around my already-raccoonish eyes. Are there any lighter/wire frames that are actually stylish for a 30 yo woman?
|
| Go to Georgetown Optician on Wisconsin (1300 block). Take someone whose opinion you trust (friend, spouse, etc.). Most of their frames are fashion forward and they can find something to work with your hair color and skin tone and whatever look you are going for. |

The hottest selling frames out there are the ones that Sarah Palin wears - totally clear with no frames showing and just skinny side bars. I believe they are actually sold out but I'm sure you can find something similar.
If you are wearing glasses, there are makeup techniques that you can also use to eliminate shadows and brighten the eyes. |

All 60-something women in my office wear the rimless ones, including my boss. I steer clear of them, I'm only 37 and do not want to look like them.

yes, rimless are out! Here are some cool ideas: http://www.allaboutvision.com/whatsnew/frames.htm |
eww! half rimless are funky bad. |
| Rimless are definitely out. |
| Go for a funky tortoise shell, always classic but if you change up the shape a little, they will be contemporary. Or go with gold rimmed. not grandma gold rimmed, but more of a platinum color in a funky shape, like rectangular. |

OP, I feel your pain, I do. But I also agree with all of the posters steering you away from rimless. The last two times I bought new frames, I thought, "I'm so sick of dark plastic frames. I'm going to get rimless." And both times, I tried on a zillion pairs of rimless, only to end up with dark plastic frames--not just because of the age issue but also because plastic is so much more comfortable. So light, no nose pads, easy to perch on your head if necessary.
If you're going to Gtown Opticians, also check out See a few doors down. Extremely well-priced, tons of styles. I've gotten my last two pair there. |
| OP, I'm 31 and have worn glasses since I was 10 years old, so I've worked my way through pretty much every style of glasses, from subtle to wire rimmed to bold and colorful and on and on. I've gone the funky dark plastic route the last few years - it suits me and they're comfortable. There are tons of flattering frames out there now, and it could be that you might just need a slightly different frame rather than a completely different style. I think the rimless look can be interesting, but whether it works for you depends not only on your face but also on your prescription - my lenses are entirely too thick for that look. Good luck finding a new pair! |
| I currently wear titanium which is a way to get a bit of a lighter look than plastic. To be honest, though, I think I generally prefer the plastic ones on my face. I wore plastics for years and than got these titaniums about two years ago for a change. I agree with others. I am not a huge fan of rimless. |

i have half-rimless glasses and am late 20s... i have to say, they look professional, and that's what i'm going for because i tend to look young for my age.
i also have to say, i've seen some older people wearing the plastic thick rimmed glasses and they can look really bad if their general style doesn't hint at hipster and especially so if the frames are circular. |
| Totally depends on your face type and coloring. I'm finding, though, that some of the new styles with wide arms (? side parts) annoyingly limit my peripheral vision. I'm going to look for thin arms next time. |

My DH has the partial rimless ones, and they look good on him. You can see his eyes well, and frankly he is too old for the dark plastic ones. Those will make him look like his is "trying" to look younger. He is in his early 40s.
Although maybe the glasses "rules" are different for men and women? |
| Glass trends now are smaller lenses, frames and arms. Agreed that Sarah Palin has brought that particular rimless back in style. But one has to find the best fit for face shape and personality. |
