Another Puppy Poop Question

Anonymous
I've been following the recent puppy poop threads but thought I'd go ahead and throw my question out.

I have an 8 month old Mastiff. She consistenly has very soft stools. It's not diarrhea, and she's housebroken so it's not in the house, no accidents. But outside I just clean up splats, like cow patties. She's always been like this.

She's on Diamond Naturals Large Breed Puppy Lamb and Rice, per the breeder's recommendation. She doesn't get table scraps.

I've tried adding pumpkin to her food, but that doesn't seem to firm her up. It's not a huge deal, but it is tough to clean up, from the yard and when walking her around the neighborhood. On her initial puppy visit to the vet, I mentioned it, she said puppies are commonly like that, and would grow out of it. Puppy hasn't been to the vet since her last puppy shot visit, which was curbside service with just a quick phone call with the vet to talk about heartworm meds, etc. I completely forgot to ask about the soft stools.

So I was wondering if I should try changing her to a different food?

Hmm -- I could be wrong but I don't think a dog should have persistent soft stools. Could be worth trying a food with a different protein like salmon or chicken.
