Hugo Chavez has accused the United States of starting the earthquake in Haiti. What a moron! To put it mildly, the US has not always had the best interests of Haiti first and foremost among its political goals. But the way to fight US imperialism is *not* by indulging in bizarre paranoid fantasies. Pat Robertson and he should start a group for celebrity delusionals! Maybe Sarah Palin could join and treat her "death panel" obsession! And Kanye West can get help for his belief that the government is spreading AIDS.
http://www.counterpunch.org/kozloff01272010.html Morons! All of them! |
Kanye actually pushed Chavez out of the way and said "I'm really happy for you Chavez, and Ima let you speak, but Ahmadinejad had the craziest speech of all time" |
Brilliant! |
I read the article that OP linked. While it left me feeling that Chavez is loopy, it also left me wondering whether our troops are ham-handedly interfering with the processes they are supposed to be enabling. |
Funniest thing I've read in a long time! |
OP here. That's why I linked it. I am always suspicious of the US's designs on the rest of the world. Sometimes when we say we're "helping," we are just making things worse. But I just don't think we're either so talented or so evil (think super villains in the comic books) that we caused the Haitian earthquake. Which is why I find Chavez so frustrating. While I share many of his leftist ideals, I can't stand his anti-democratic efforts to shut down the opposition in Venezuela and his big stupid mouth. All he does is give support to the right wingers who would like to take back Venezuela. |
The Doctors Without Borders organization does fabulous work - but their anti-Americanism is a bit off putting. During the 3 days in question Haiti had one working runway, no radar, and yet the US military was managing to land and clear nearly 100 planes per day. When the American portable Air Traffic Control station arrived, they were able to double this traffic. Each plane needs to land, be unloaded, and then sent back out again, the airport cannot accommodate them all. Without the US troops that were being flown in, and the logistics experience they bring, just how do you who sympathize with the French gentleman's POV expect this would be accomplished? Landing DWB's medical supplies, absent any infrastructure to unload and distribute, seems a bit counterproductive. |
The focus of this thread is how crazy Chavez is, not the debate about Doctors without Borders. |
PP, since thread-evolution is not the topic of this thread, why didn't you post that on a new thread? ![]() |
Ok. Point taken. |
Many of the marines diverted to Haiti were on their way to deployment in the Middle East--going into peace-keeping mode for additional time on the ground in Haiti. They found time to stop in their designs on the world to help strangers in need. Chavez is an evil clown. |
