Is there any hope for a K spot somewhere?

Anonymous
I just received notice from another private K (attached to a preschool) that I had enrolled my DD in that they will not be able to open this fall. This is the third time this has happened in the last few weeks. Should I give up trying to find her a spot? Is there anywhere in the northern VA area that has K openings at this point in the game? We cannot afford the very pricey privates.

Thanks for letting me get some frustration out...

Where are you in Northern VA? Our daycare is in the early stages of planning an expansion to K. They have the licensing and curriculum but need the demand (besides my kid) and need to work out the process. They plan on incorporating flexibility for if/when kids can start going to ES in person. The Pre-K class was only 10 kids, so it'll be small for K too. They are in McLean, near Tysons.

I don't know why I didn't add this: it's FAZ in McLean.

My daycare expands from 1 to 2 Kindergarten Rooms because of high demand, but it costs 2k a month to help with virtual distance learning plus doing other curriculum/ activities. Sign up now if you are interested & can afford about it.

I'm in West Springfield. We could make the trip up to McLean--especially as it looks like traffic might stay manageable for the time being. I'm assuming you are happy with your current daycare? I'd be happy to give them a call to express interest!

That is our upper $ limit, but we could make it work.

What schools have you looked at? I think Greentree is planning on opening, but their full day K might be full already. Jerusalem Baptist has a pretty big preschool program but may not have full day K, but you could take a look there.

If you're open to Jewish preschools, Rodef Shalom is opening a 3rd kindergarten class and may have room.

First Steps Academy had spots as of yesterday.

Columbia Baptist had spots in "jr kindergarten"

Appletree offered a wait list

Call around to preschools, many are expanding for a 5 year old class this year.

First Baptists Church of Clarendon Child Development Center is going to have 1 K class. It may be limited to current families but worth calling.
